Windows 12 is the next edition of Microsoft’s operating system. Although the Redmond giant has not officially disclosed any information about this new system yet, Intel seems to have given us a glimpse of what’s to come.
According to Intel, Windows 12 is expected to debut in 2024 and is anticipated to have a positive impact on computer sales. This aligns with Microsoft’s new strategy of introducing new generations of Windows every three years, meaning that Windows 12 is set to hit the market in 2024.
Intel’s confidence in Windows 12 is evident in their development of new processors from the Meteor Lake series. During a Citi conference, David Zinsner, a representative of Intel, expressed his expectations for the next generation of Microsoft’s operating system in 2024. Zinsner stated, “We believe that 2024 will be a pretty good year for the customer, particularly with the refresh of the Windows operating system. We still think that the install base is quite old and needs a refresh, and we think next year could be the beginning of that, given the catalyst of Windows.”
While the release of Windows 12 is still a year away, there have been reports suggesting that Microsoft might introduce a subscription model for this new operating system. This speculation arises from references found in the Windows system code, indicating the possibility of a subscription-based model. However, Microsoft’s precise plans in this regard are not yet known.
It is worth noting that Microsoft has already embraced the subscription model with its Office suite, moving away from perpetual licenses in favor of subscriptions. This leads to the question of whether Windows will follow the same path. It is possible that a subscription option will be available alongside boxed versions of the new Windows, as Microsoft already provides subscription-based operating environments for businesses through its cloud solutions.
