Gmail, currently the world’s largest email service used by businesses, entrepreneurs, and individuals alike, has introduced a much-anticipated feature for Android smartphone users. While Gmail isn’t immune to spam, a recent update aims to make it easier for users to get rid of unwanted promotional offers.
Gmail has long been promising to combat spam and provide users with tools to efficiently manage or minimize unwanted messages. With the latest Gmail update for Android smartphones, a new feature will enable quicker disposal of spam from specific senders.
How does it work? In Gmail on web browsers, there’s an option to unsubscribe directly from the message (no need to visit an external site) using the “unsubscribe” button. While not all senders offer this option, users can always mark a particular message as spam, and Gmail will subsequently place emails from that sender in the appropriate folder in the future.
Of course, it all depends on the sender—not everyone opts to provide an “unsubscribe” button in their promotional emails, as some may present this option differently (e.g., a small text at the bottom of the email). Nevertheless, it’s possible that Google may tighten its policy, and both the web version and the Gmail app on smartphones could feature a mandatory button in messages for easier spam management in the future.
